In the spirit of building community, we thought it might be nice to conclude our monthly posts with something to encourage you and make you smile. – “Shopkeeper’s Thoughts,” if you will.

Just the other day, a customer commented that she’d had a hectic few days at work and decided to stop by because Southern Chic was her “happy place.” She proceeded to peruse the shop, eventually picking up a book about Creole architecture and settling down on our big green couch to enjoy a few minutes of delight and inspiration.

I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to know that Southern Chic is a place of calm and comfort where you can fill yourself back up when you feel depleted and worn out.

Owning and styling the shop has been such a life-giving experience for me. It is a place where I have the freedom to create by curating products that celebrate craftsmanship, hard work, and Southern culture + by styling the store using my background in design. I’d like to think that because this place allows me to pursue my best, it inspires you to do the same for yourself, thus making it at “happy place” for us all.

I know we say it often, but thank you for trusting us to find thoughtful, inspiring gifts for your loved ones + for allowing us to fill your homes with decor that makes you happy and brings you comfort.

It’s Carnival Time

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season surrounded by those you love!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for shopping Southern Chic this Christmas! We truly hope your shopping experience at our store was calm and pleasant in the midst of a season that often seems hurried and stressful. It’s such a joy to help you find the perfect gifts for friends and family.

The shop has slowed down a bit, and we are ready for Mardi Gras! Megan has just returned from New Orleans with some great products you won’t find anywhere else in town. We can help with gifts for Kings, Queens, Krewes, and kids! Laissez les bon temps rouler! It’s carnival time!

Welcome to Southern Chic

Welcome to Southern Chic! We are excited to have the new website up and running, and we hope it gives you a bit more insight into our shop, who we are, and why we do what we do. The website will give you a small glimpse of the products we have in store, but we really hope you’ll stop in for a visit. We’ve worked really hard to create a shop environment that is both comfy and inspiring – we even have a big green couch if you want to sit and chat awhile – and we value the relationships that make gift-giving such a personal matter.

So, why did we purchase Southern Chic in June 2016? Several people have asked me if I was having a quarter-life crisis – Ha! After having moved back to Alexandria a few years prior and starting Hunt & Gather Home, LLC in 2015, I saw the opportunity to give more visibility to my preservation and design business by opening a small studio inside this well-known, local gift shop. Like many of you, I was a frequent customer of Southern Chic and loved their unique product offerings and Southern-inspired style. Combining the studio + shop allowed me the opportunity to have my own, creative space, but also to create a shopping environment that would inspire customers to select thoughtful, creative gifts and inspiring decor to create and define their own spaces. Southern Chic will continue to offer the local and regional artisanal wares that you love, and we hope to expand our merchandise to include vintage architectural finds and furniture.

Thanks to the hundreds of you who have encouraged and supported us these first four months in business! If you haven’t seen the newly updated shop and inventory, we invite you to stop in this weekend – Friday and Saturday, October 28-29 – for our official GRAND RE-OPENING! We’re offering $5 off your purchase of $50 and $10 off your purchase of $100 or more! Plus, every purchase over $20 will be entered in our “Something Old/Something New” drawing. This giveaway features your favorite Nola Couture etched glassware and our new MIMOSA handcrafted jewelry line!!!

Join us this weekend to say hi and celebrate new beginnings. See you soon!
